Sri Lankan athletes Pasindu Malshan, Chamod Yodhsingha, and Shafiya Yamick won three gold medals for Sri Lanka on the opening day of the 4th South Asian Senior Athletic Championship (SASAC) 2025, held yesterday.

The championship, being held in Ranchi, India, from October 24-26, has returned after a 17-year hiatus, featuring participation from six South Asian countries — all except Pakistan.

Sri Lanka’s first gold medal came through Pasindu Malshan, who clinched victory in the men’s triple jump with a distance of 16.19 metres. Chamod Yodhsingha secured Sri Lanka’s second gold medal, winning the men’s 100m final in 10.30 seconds, while Shafiya Yamick claimed the third gold in the women’s 100m final, clocking 11.53 seconds.

In addition, Sri Lankan long-distance runner Ranar Viknaraj Vakshan won the silver medal in the men’s 5000m event, finishing with a time of 14 minutes and 23.21 seconds.
