Moreton Cricket from Australia to land in Sri Lanka this week

Moreton Cricket, comprising cricketers from Queensland, Australia, will arrive in Sri Lanka on April 3rd for their 21st Annual Cricket Tour. The tour, which began in 2002, was the brainchild of former Havelock and CH & FC rugby player Baba Sourjah, along with Athula Unantenne, who captained both the Trinity College 1st XV rugby team and the 1st XI cricket team in the early 1970s. Although the tour was interrupted by the COVID pandemic in 2020, it resumed in 2023.
This year, the tour will feature four teams, along with parents and supporters, numbering close to 100 in the group. For the first time, the tour will include a girls’ U13 team. Each year, Moreton Cricket undertakes a special project to support underprivileged communities in the areas of health, education, and sport. This year, the recipient is Wadduwa Central Girls’ School. A matting wicket will be installed on the school’s grounds, and cricket gear will be donated, further promoting women’s cricket in the region. The teams will be competing in Colombo, Kandy, and the Southern Districts, with the tour being locally managed by Asian Adventures.
