The top team member handling the subject of Labour and Foreign Employment had recently presented a proposal to the team at the top table to pay a substantial amount of money as compensation to the family of Priyantha who was lynched by a mob of bigots in Pakistan.

Then, some Top Team members had suggested that the proposed grant be paid from the Employees’ Welfare Fund operated by the Foreign Employment Bureau as the authorities handling Finance may not agree to make this payment.

After the proposed grant on humanitarian grounds was sanctioned by the top team, a regime bigwig had asked the top team member handling the subject of Labour to ensure the participation of the two Pohottuwa purohitas from the district Priyantha hailed from at the presentation of the grant to Priyantha’s family.

However, it had been rumored that arrangements had been made for the top team member handling Labour and his State purohita to make the presentation without inviting the Pohottuwa purohitas to the event.

When a certain person inquired from the top team member whether there was any truth in the rumour, he had replied with a wry smile: “Aise, when I made a request that the proposed grant be made from the Treasury funds, they turned it down and asked us to make the payment from our own Fund. Now that we are going to pay  the grant ourselves, why should we invite other ‘kapuwo’ to the event?”
