There are ongoing attempts to ridicule the present Government over its so-called inability to converse in English. The media both social and mainstream, are complicit for obvious reasons.
All government representatives need not be highly proficient in English, which is not our mother tongue. It is the intended message that matters, and not the language in which it is conveyed.
As leaders of many other countries and their representatives do, may I request the Government to always ensure that interpreters are available when addressing those who do not know our mother tongue. The address and the answers to questions can be translated into the common language of the audience, while the speaker speaks in the language that he or she speaks in, all the time.
This procedure, which will ensure clarity of the message and answers to questions, will obviously be a simple and effective solution to the language issue.
