There are two ministers in the present government who have  faced corruption charges, Opposition MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake told  Parliament yesterday.

“One minister is alleged to have acquired a  building in Dehiwala by force. A complaint had been filed with CID  years ago, but no investigation has been carried out to date,” the MP said.
The MP said there is another minister who was charged with theft during his days at Fertilizer Corporation.” This one is  functioning as a Minister to date, “ he said.

“We in the opposition are victimised while these persons in the government are allowed to function freely,” the MP added.

“I will not be knocked down by the court cases filed against me. I will go from strength to strength, “ he also said.

MP Dasanayake, who is currently in remand custody over a bribery  case, is attending Parliament sessions following a court order that  allows him to participate as an MP. He has been remanded by the Badulla  Magistrate’s Court until April 21.”
