Authorities have yet to locate the parents of an infant girl found abandoned in a paddy field in Sinhapura, along the Mawathagama, Paragahadeniya, Jakaduwa road, about three months ago, officials from the Department of Probation and Child Care Services said.
The baby, discovered on July 17, was brought to the Mawathagama Police around 7.00 a.m. by residents who had found her in the field. She was first admitted to the Mawathagama Hospital for initial treatment and later transferred to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for further care.
Following medical examinations, the infant was handed over to the Department of Probation and Child Care Services and subsequently placed at the Migalewa State Children’s Home, where she is currently reported to be in good health.
Police investigations are continuing to identify the child’s parents or guardians.
