Three-and-a-half-year-old child dies after falling into water-filled pit in Galnewa

Police said the incident occurred while the child was playing

A three-and-a-half-year-old child has died after falling into a water-filled pit on Friday, according to Galnewa Police.   

The deceased has been identified as Avishka Sampath Wijerathna, a resident of the Aliwanguwa area in Negama.   

Police said the incident occurred while the child was playing. He had fallen into a pit filled with water, located approximately 200 metres from his home.  The pit had reportedly been dug on private land for the disposal of waste.
