A certificate awarding ceremony for 76 police officers who had successfully completed a Tamil language course was recently held at the Ministry of Housing and Construction Research auditorium in Colombo 7.
The programme was held under the theme ‘Building a Harmonious Nation through National Reconciliation and Coexistence,’ of the National Institute of Language Education and Training in collaboration with Sri Lanka Police. It was aimed to enhance the efficiency of police duties and promote reconciliation among communities through the structured methodology of language learning. Deputy Director of the Homicide and Organized Crime Division of the Criminal Investigation Department ASP K. K. C. P. Kaluarachchi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, whilst Director General of the National Institute of Language Education and Training Shaminda Mahalekam with Director Administration and Western Province Coordinator of the National Language Training Institute respectively Devapriya Gunasinghe and Hiroshima Perera were amongst the other distinguished attendees.
Veteran Tamil language instructor and Police Special Task Force Sub Inspector Deshashakthi Vishwakeerthi Dr. Ravindra Silva was the key resource person of the programme with contributing resource person Sunil Hemachandra.
