The Parents’ Association of the Girls’ High School, Kandy, has made a formal written request to Education Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya to launch an impartial investigation into the principal of the school, Renuka Edirisinghe, following a series of allegations made against her on social media.
In the letter, the association’s secretary, Attorney J. K. Pieris, claimed that a small group of teachers are allegedly working to remove the principal for their personal gain. He alleged that subversive actions are being carried out to discredit the principal, despite her efforts to make decisions in the best interests of the students.
The letter further said that this targeted campaign has extended over several months through various media platforms, affecting the administration and reputation of the school. It added that the sudden transfer of the former principal and nearly 100 senior teachers had already disrupted school operations.
Principal Edirisinghe was appointed in 2024 by the Education Ministry with the formal approval of the Public Service Commission. Since taking office, she has focused on enhancing academics, sports, and co-curricular activities at the school.
The Association warned that the continued disruption threatens the education and well-being of the nearly 5,000 students enrolled, and urged the Education Minister to appoint an impartial committee to investigate the allegations and ensure stability at the school.
