Sri Lanka cricket legend Sanath Jayasuriya said that he is now in the process of writing to the Indian government through the Indian High Commission in Colombo requesting for assistance to build an international cricket ground in Jaffna.
The players of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup winning cricket team met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the country. At that meeting, Mr. Jayasuriya asked for India’s help for the construction of a cricket ground in Jaffna.
Asked about the current status in this regard, Mr. Jayasuriya said that he will put forward the request to the Indian government through its mission in Colombo.
“I am writing this on behalf of the country, “ he said.
