Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors’ Association said haphazard behaviour of the public who ignored the health guidelines has compelled the government to extend the travel restrictions.

President of the association Upul Rohana told the media that the public should take up the responsibility for the government’s decision to extend the travel restrictions by a further week.

He said the poor response of the public to the health guidelines and the travel restrictions was a matter of serious concern. He pointed out that the death toll due to the pandemic and the increasing rate of the infected indicated that the objective of the travel restrictions and the health precautions could not be met.

He further said that in the circumstance the government was compelled to extend the travel restriction for which the public should be held responsible.
