Condemning Israel’s alleged violation of ceasefire with airstrikes, Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) Leader Rauff Hakeem yesterday urged the Sri Lankan government to speak against its violation of international law.

MP Hakeem said the following in a statement. We vehemently condemn the Israeli Zionist regime’s blatant violation of the ceasefire with yesterday’s shocking airstrikes. Israel’s flagrant resumption of bombings  have claimed more than 400 lives in Gaza amidst Ramadan, shattering the two-month long ceasefire. Israel has clearly unilaterally ended the first phase of the ceasefire subverting its development into a next stage of negotiations. It continues to carry out brutal attacks and ethnic cleansing on innocent civilians with no interest in peace in Gaza and the rest of the region.

We equally condemn the recent spate of attacks by Israel targeting Yemen, Syria and Lebanon wounding civilians, women and children, unrelenting also towards the aid workers. They continue to block aid to Gaza violating international law.

It is deeply concerning to note US’ support for Israel’s strengthened position, which only intensifies Israel’s acts of impunity. This in turn severely undermines the region’s ability to de-escalate military conflicts. We also call upon the Arab leaders to urgently brace unanimity against US policies on the Israeli Zionist regime’s actions and appeal for peace negotiations. We urge the Government of Sri Lanka to explicitly condemn the Israeli Zionists Regime’s continued violation of international law and speak up against its acts of genocide and continued aggression and destruction in Gaza.
