Former PSD Constable remanded till April 22.

Former Police Constable of the Presidential Security Division (PSD) was remanded till April 22, by Colombo Additional Magistrate Bandara Ilangasinghe yesterday over allegations of defrauding over Rs. 1 billion by showing photos of luxury vehicles held at customs and convincing individuals that he could provide them at prices lower than market value.  
Suspect, Asanka Sanjeewa Bandara, was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) while at a social club two nights ago and was produced in court yesterday.  
According to FCID, 9 warrants had been issued against the suspect based on this incident. It was further revealed that he had served in the Presidential Security Division from 2009 to 2021.  
The Additional Magistrate, after considering submissions made by the FCID, informed that there is an ongoing case against the suspect before the Fort Magistrate’s Court. Accordingly, prison authorities were instructed to produce the suspect before the Fort Magistrate on April 21.  
FCID told the court that the suspect had shown photos of luxury vehicles held at customs and convinced individuals that he could provide them at prices lower than market value. Based on multiple complaints received regarding this scam, investigations were launched by the FCID.
