Foreigner dead -five injured at Pelwehera

A foreigner died and five others received serious injuries when two trishaws, a motorcar and a lorry transporting a consignment of cement collided together at Pelwehera on the Dambulla- Habarana road last morning.  

The foreigner who died in the accident was identified as a Netherlander William Wickny Anthonia. Another five foreigners who received injuries were admitted to the Dambulla base hospital.   

Investigations revealed that two trishaws transporting tourists had collided head on with a motorcar transporting a group of foreign tourists. Another trishaw transporting eight tourists from the Netherlands which had followed had collided head on with a lorry when it attempted to overtake the motorcar involved in the accident.   

OIC Dambulla Tourist Police W.S.I.S.K.Herath said she called over at the hospital to record statements from the injured tourists but they were not in a position to do so. Dambulla police and the Tourist Police are conducting further investigations.
