Kaduwela Magistrate Chandima Wijebandara yesterday (5) ordered the release of Daisy Forrest, a suspect in a money laundering case involving the Carlton Sports Network, on three surety bonds of Rs. 500,000 each.
Forrest was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as part of an ongoing investigation into Carlton Sports Network Private Limited, which was chaired by Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on charges of money laundering.
On February 14, the Attorney General filed indictments in the Colombo High Court against Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest Wickremesinghe under the
Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The charges concern their failure to disclose the source of funds used to acquire lands and properties in Sirimalwatta Uyana, Ratmalana, and Dehiwala, collectively valued at over Rs. 8 billion between 2012 and 2015.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa, who was also arrested in connection with the case, was released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.
