Army commander meets Mahanayake’s of the Malwatu and Asgiri Chapters

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Wikum Liyanage said the army had already launched a food production campaign to provide relief to the people in view of the imminent food scarcity facing the country.   


After meeting the Mahanayake Theras of Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters he told the media that the Sri Lanka army had a long tradition of coming forward to save the country from any disastrous situation. The Army Commander, attended religious observances at the Sri Dalada Maligawa before he met the Mahanayakes of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters.   


He said the army would take steps to cultivate all abandoned land belonging to the government and that a board of directors responsible for the programme had already been appointed. He said the Mahanayake Theras pointed out that the people would have a fair share of the food production campaign.  


Commander of the 111 Division, Central Province Brig. Rohitha Bandara Ratnayake and several senior military officials were present at the occasion.
