The answer to the Sri Lankan debt crisis is a revolutionary solution and refusing to pay back any loans taken as they were not taken for the sake of the working class people or the farmer fraternity, is our solution, the Socialist Equality Party (SEP) said yesterday.

The party said the present NPP government is no better than any other previous government as they too work to the Capitalist tune and strictly follow the IMF guidelines although they claim themselves to be a Socialist party.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo, Assistant Secretary of the party Saman Gunadasa said the IMF solution to regain from the debt trap was to tax the poor and the working class immensely for the loans taken for the purpose of the rich and as such they say they shall refuse to pay any debts to the world as their policy.

“The solution we offer, to come out of this debt trap does not lie within the present system but we have to topple the system and build one that is similar to the Fourth International by Trotsky with the union of the working class people and the farmer fraternity,” Gunadasa said.

The SEP also announced its involvement in the oncoming Local Government election where their representatives are expecting to contest for the Kolonnawa Urban Council and the Karainagar Pradeshiya Sabha.

Party’s senior political bureau member Vilani Pieris also spoke at the press briefing.
