63 schools in Galle have less than 50 students each

A recent survey has revealed that the strength of 63 schools in the Galle District is less than 50 students each.

The Zonal Directors informed the District Coordinating Committee that 17 schools in the Galle Education Zone, 17 in Elpitiya Zone, 24 in Udugama Zone and five in Ambalangoda Zone had less than 50 students each.

The Coordinating Committee met under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage at the District Secretariat.

He instructed the Secretary to the Southern Province Education Ministry to prepare a project proposal to uplift these schools. He instructed the secretary to take legal action against the unauthorised constructions in Ahangama Rohana Vidyalaya ground.
