This ceremony was a true reflection of the outstanding legacy of Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramaratne, an individual whose commitment, service, and devotion remain an inspiration to all.  


At a special assembly held on February 24, 2025, in the College Hall, an atmosphere of gratitude and admiration filled the room as the WCC OBU came together to honour one of its most distinguished alumni, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramaratne, the Chief of Staff. The event was graced by the presence of the Principal, Vice Principal, Manager, Chaplain, Teachers, Distinguished Old Boys, Students, and AVM Sampath’s beloved wife and adored sons.  

The occasion was a heartfelt celebration of his remarkable service, not only to the College but also to the nation. Principal of Wesley College, Avanka Fernando, OBU President, Captain Navin De Silva, and Head Prefect, Nehemian Perera, delivered moving speeches that highlighted AVM Sampath’s unwavering commitment and loyalty to the College, as well as his tireless dedication to the service of our country. They lauded him for bringing pride and glory to our Alma Mater while consistently upholding the values instilled in him during his time at Wesley College.  

AVM Sampath, in his motivational address, shared valuable insights from his journey. Reflecting on his own time at the College, he encouraged the current students to remain disciplined, particularly in managing their time effectively, as the key to reaching their goals. His words were not only inspiring but also a testament to the character and leadership that he has exemplified throughout his career.  

Ven. Perry Brohier, the Manager, presided over the closing prayer, bringing the ceremony to a reflective and prayerful close. The event was attended by many Distinguished Old Boys from the OBU executive committee, who came to express their deep gratitude and admiration for AVM Sampath’s continued devotion to both the College and the Country.  

This ceremony was a true reflection of the outstanding legacy of Air Vice Marshal Sampath Wickramaratne, an individual whose commitment, service, and devotion remain an inspiration to all. The entire College community is proud to call him one of our own, and we are deeply grateful for the honor he has brought to Wesley College through his life of service and integrity.
