He Left an Irreplaceable Void

The first death anniversary of Roland De Alwis was on August 31, 2025

“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of”. These immortal lines of Alfred Lord Tennyson reflected admirably in the life of late Roland De Alwis, who passed away on August 31, 2024, after a brief illness.

It is with great sadness that we write this tribute to our loving Dada. When we lose a loved one, we have to endure pain, grief, desolation and emptiness. In fact, a loss of a father is irreparable and devastating, no matter how young or old the children are and remembering our Dada, who was always loving and devoted, understanding and affectionate. Indeed, he lavished his love and care on material resources to keep the family happy and advance his children. His guidance, advice, concern and his untiring efforts helped the children to come up in life.

Dada devoted his time, skill, patience and love with generosity and magnanimity, and we, being his children, wanted to honour his love, fatherly affection, care and patience, which he gave us ungrudgingly.

Daddy had amazing powers, and his forte was that he could face any problem without making any complaints. He cared for all of us without any demands. Being benevolent and sweet by nature, Dada soon found his place in the hearts of everyone.

“Love and forgive, live and let live” was his motto.

In fact, religion played a very great role in his life. Born to a devout Catholic family, his faith was strong, and whatever he did, his promise to God came first. In Mother Mary Immaculate, he had strong faith, which helped him till the very end.

He passed away on August 31, 2024, clinging to the Blessed Rosary.

Indeed, the loss of our Dada is painful and tearful. A light from the family is gone, a voice we loved stilled, a place is vacant in our home which can never be replaced”.

He saw the road was getting rough, so he closed his weary eyelids and whispered, “Peace be thine, it broke our hearts to lose him, but he didn’t go alone, a part of us went with him. The day God called him Home”.

May we say, goodnight, sweet Prince and may the flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Fondly remembered and sadly missed by your daughters Michelle, Dilrukshi, Dilruani, in-laws, grandchildren and family members.
