A reprint of the critical Pali grammar work “Namamala’’ by the Pathfinder Foundation, compiled by Ven. Waskaduwe Rajaguru Sri Subhuthi Mahanayake will be released at the Orchid Committee Hall of Bandaranaike International Conference, Colombo on Monday, January 20th at 2.30 pm with the participation of the Maha Sangha of the three Nikaya and lay guests.
The book was first printed in 1870, and a second edition was published in 1965, considering the needs of the student community studying the Pali language in universities. The Pathfinder Foundation decided to republish the book in its original format with the approval of the Mahanayake Thero of Venerable Dr. Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Maha Nayaka of Amarapura Sambuddha Sasanodaya Chapter to provide an opportunity to study Pali as an academic language.
Ven. Dr. Niyangoda Vijitasiri, Ven. Wendaruwe Upali, Senior Professor Kotapitiye Rahula, and Ven. Waleboda Gunasiri. The Anunayake Theras are scheduled to preside over the book launching event. The Indian High Commissioner, H.E. Santosh Jha, and Pathfinder Foundation Founder, Milinda Moragoda, will also participate in the ceremony. The High Commission of India has sponsored the reprint of “Namamala”.
The book will be available for free to those attending the event and those interested in studying Pali, including the pirivenas, temples and universities in Sri Lanka.
