Buddhist scholar and monastic teacher Ajahn Brahmali will deliver a special dhamma talk on the right view (sammā diṭṭhi) on May 1 (Poya day) from 8 a.m. To 4 p.m. at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) Main Hall.

The programme is expecting more than 1500 participants for the event spending a day in ‘seela’, with the day being dedicated to several talks and discussions on the complex subject of ‘right view’ in the Noble Eightfold Path.

Sammā diṭṭhi (right view) is the foundation of the Noble Eightfold Path. It shapes how we understand the nature of suffering (dukkha), the law of cause and effect (kamma), and the ethical and wise conduct of daily life.

Right view is not merely an intellectual concept. It represents a profound transformation in understanding that guides how we live, speak, choose, and respond to the world. When our view is clear, our actions naturally align with wisdom and compassion.

In a time of uncertainty and rapid change, returning to right view provides stability, clarity, and direction. It enables practitioners to understand reality as taught in the early Buddhist texts and to apply those teachings meaningfully in modern life.

This special programme offers a rare and meaningful opportunity for the Sri Lankan public to deepen their understanding of the foundation of the Noble Eightfold Path under the guidance of Maha Thera Ajahn Brahmali.

Ajahn Brahmali is widely respected for his careful scholarship and deep grounding in the early Buddhist teachings. His approach combines academic precision, faithfulness to the original texts, and practical clarity for everyday life. He presents the Dhamma in a way that is accessible, thoughtful, and transformative, making profound teachings understandable without compromising their depth.

Born in Norway in 1964, Ajahn Brahmali first became interested in Buddhism and meditation in his early twenties during a visit to Japan. After completing degrees in engineering and finance, he began monastic training as an Anagarika in England at the Amaravati Buddhist Monastery and Chithurst Buddhist Monastery.

After hearing teachings from Ajahn Brahm, he travelled to Australia to train at Bodhinyana Monastery, where he has resided since 1994. He was ordained as a Bhikkhu in 1996, with Ajahn Brahm as his preceptor. In 2015, upon completing twenty Rains Retreats as a fully ordained monastic, he received the title Maha Thera (Great Elder). With over three decades of monastic experience and deep study of the early suttas, Ajahn Brahmali offers a rare opportunity to explore right view under the guidance of a teacher who embodies both scholarship and practice.

The dhamma talk will be mainly conducted in English and summarised in Sinhala. Participation in the public dhamma programme is available by prior online registration and for early registration, individuals who are interested are kindly encouraged to apply via the link https://forms.gle/7Yb6XVTNaUJE2w6a8
