A CHRISTMAS REFLECTION

Beyond the crib is the cross.
The Child born in the manger when there was no room in the inn was born to be the Saviour of the World.
That is why Easter is called the Queen of all Festivals. I saw the meaning of this when I was a student at Bishop’s College, Calcutta. Near our college was the world famous home of Mother Teresa.  She was born in Europe and came to India to teach. When she saw the reality of India, she started the Missionary Sisters of Charity.
The Pope took a long time to recognise this order. When it was recognised, females from all over India and all over the world joined the order.
When I was a student, one of our tasks was to spend sometime with the Brothers of Charity. The Brothers were divided into groups. One group visited patients, the other group visited lepers and another group visited the sick and the dying.
It is good to attend Christmas and Carol services, but the Church has to recover the meaning of Christmas.
My hope and prayers are that during this Christmas Season we will rediscover the real meaning of Christmas.
