Bad Times

11 Jun 2021 - {{hitsCtrl.values.hits}}

In pre-Covid times we woke up every morning with great hope and excitement,  looking forward to what the day would unfold.  Many even thanked their God for being alive on that day.  It is so different now because the joyous feeling you wake up with is dispelled in a few seconds when the current stay at home situation owing to the pandemic hits you.  In short, we have nothing to look forward to for the rest of the day.

With this pandemic hovering around us for over a year now, being stuck indoors, every cupboard has been cleared out with broken and damaged goods thrown away, filing done, photograph albums sorted out and every nook and corner of the house wiped clean.  It is the exceedingly rare person who likes living in an unhygienic and cluttered environment who would have not resorted to such a bout of spring cleaning.  Believe me, there are many of those around us, even though when they step out, they are all gassed up looking like peacocks in all their finery.
With the current restriction in force many are not able to carry on with their daily trade.  We hear the fish seller walking past our homes shouting out desperately about all the fresh fish he has for sale but there seems to be no takers owing to the damage that has been caused by the burning ship close to our shores.  Photographs and stories being circulated of the debris, chemicals, plastic pellets etc., floating around and the resultant ecological crisis to the ocean make most of us think twice before purchasing seafood. This is a double whammy to both the fishermen and fishmongers.

The recent rains that are welcome for many purposes also have caused great damage in many areas with rivers overflowing and many people displaced or who have lost everything.  Some even their lives. On top of it there are landslides and other natural disasters taking place. The daily worker who may be able to get a job in their neighbourhood is not being employed unless there is proof of at least one vaccination.  People have the right to fear the non vaccinated as no one wishes to catch this deadly virus. Many who have caught it badly are yet suffering in great anguish. Reading the papers, tabloids or watching the news only informs you of some fraud or another taking place.

Moreover, many on social media are trying their best to latch on to a woman who broke the law recently and was quarantined, which made the headlines in every media platform. All these wannabes are trying to ride on her wave in sheer desperation for recognition.  What sad people. The bad and sad time seems to keep rolling on for everybody in one way or another.  All of us long to see some redemption from all of this horror goings on around us.
