Hemas Southern Hospital Galle continues to shine as the best private hospital in the Southern Province, after it emerged victorious yet again at the ‘Dakshina Suwa Wiru Abhishekaya 2017’ award ceremony by clinching the coveted ‘Best Private Hospital in the Southern Province’, organised by the Provincial Director of Health Services Southern Province.

Held recently at the Medical Faculty Auditorium in Karapitiya, the ‘Dakshina Suwa Wiru Abhishekaya’ awards ceremony was organised to appreciate and encourage healthcare services provided by state hospitals in the Southern Province. In 2014, it introduced a special award for private hospitals of the province for the very first time and Hemas Southern Hospital Galle created history that year by winning the first-ever ‘Best Private Hospital in the Southern Province’ accolade at the prestigious awards ceremony. Hemas Southern Hospital retained the honour of being the best private hospital in the region, after the award was reintroduced to the awards ceremony in 2017.

Hemas Hospital Galle Medical Services Manager Dr. Mahesh Kandambi received the award at the ‘Dakshina Suwa Wiru Abhishekaya 2017’ awards ceremony from the Chief Minister of Southern Province Shan Wijayalal De Silva. The awards ceremony was also graced by World Health Organisation (WHO) South East Asia Coordinator on non-communicable diseases, environmental health and migrant health Dr. Palitha Mahipala and Southern Province Health Director Dr. G. Wijesuriya.
Hemas Southern Hospital Galle outshined other private hospitals in the area by scoring the highest on evaluation criteria, which included quality and safety of patient care, responsiveness, productivity, human resources management and new technology. Being the only internationally accredited hospital in the region by receiving the highly esteemed Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) accreditation and also being reaccredited in 2016, Hemas Southern Hospital has been able to maintain the highest standards in above evaluation criteria.

Expressing his views on retaining the prestigious accolade, Hemas Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Lakith Peiris said: “We are extremely proud to be honoured once again at the ‘Dakshina Suwa Wiru Abhishekaya’ as the best private hospital of Southern Province. Wining this award for the second consecutive time is testament of our unwavering commitment and dedication towards providing high quality health services for the precious people of Southern Province.”
