The Department of Meteorology yesterday issued an advisory on rough seas and gale-force winds which would be experienced in several areas in the country. According to the advisory issued at 6.00 pm yesterday, the wind speed could increase up to 70 kmph in the sea areas extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. “The sea areas will be extremely rough at times,” the Department warned.

The department has requested naval and fishing communities to refrain from venturing out to sea. And those who are currently positioned within these areas are advised to move to safer locations until further notice.
Meanwhile, a maximum rainfall of 180.1mm was reported from the Wevalthalawa area in Kegalle.
The water level of the Kalu Ganga is reported to be rising and people in low-lying areas surrounding the river have been requested to remain vigilant of floods.
