Shooting in Minuwangoda Three arrested over triple murder

Suspected kite dispute dating back to 2017 led to shooting

Three persons were arrested over the shooting in Minuwangoda in which three persons in a family were shot dead last morning.  

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said three persons belonging to the same family, the father and two of his sons have been shot to death at Gammanagedara, ​​Minuwangoda.   He said preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting took place due to a personal dispute.  In August 2017, a dispute over a kite resulted in a father and son being hacked to death in Minuwangoda. According to police, the incident at Gammanagedara in Minuwangoda, occurred between two families in the area, with a longstanding dispute between them. The double murder in 2017 took place regarding a kite allegedly flown by members of one family over the other’s house.   The spokesman said the victims of Wednesday’s shooting, aged 51 (father), 23 and 24 (sons) were in remand custody over a murder and were released on bail a few months ago.
