Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will bring in a no-confidence motion against the government if the President and Prime Minister does not resign, and the Executive Presidency is not scrapped.

“We will not participate in an interim government if the government fails to heed to our demands. Therefore please listen to the demands of the people and resign. Also, abolish the Executive Presidency. We, SJB cannot even think of joining an interim government if these demands are not followed. We will be compelled to bring in a no-confidence motion if our demands are not met,” he said.

“We welcome the appointment of a three-member Advisory Group on Multilateral Engagement and Debt Sustainability, namely Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, Professor Shantha Devarajan and Dr. Shamini Coorey. This decision was late, but it is a good one. Make more good decisions, you should either lead the way, follow or get out of the way,” he said at the same time.

Mr. Premadasa said Sri Lanka must avoid a disorderly default. “Steps should be taken to avoid a disorderly default immediately, as there is not much time left. A dialogue should be initiated with the creditors with the aim of debt restructuring. We should both restructure the payment of capital and interest. Also, we propose the appointment of a committee of global legal financial advisory committee,” he added.

“We will not initiate a bloodbath at all,” he said responding to the allegations made by the government MPs that the opposition is initiating a bloodbath,” he added.
