SJB questions House prorogation

  • More than 50 committees will become defunct with the prorogation

The decision made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to prorogue Parliament is unbelievable as the committee’ which was formed just months ago will stand dissolved by this move and this create issues, Chief Opposition Whip Lakshman Kiriella said yesterday.   

“More than 50 committees will become defunct with the prorogation ,” the MP said.   “It will take at least three months to reappoint the committee’s such as Committee on Public Enterprises ( COPE), Committee on Public Accounts ( COPA) and public finance,” he added.   


“ The Speaker should explain the rationale behind the prorogation,” he also said.
