No decision to purchase Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine: Weeratunge

• Sinovac vaccines manufactured in Sri Lanka would be for export

The government has not decided to purchase the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine, head of the Presidential Task Force for National Deployment and Vaccination Plan for COVID-19 Vaccine Lalith Weeratunge said yesterday.   

He told the maiden media briefing of the Presidential Media Centre that however, Sinovac vaccines would be distributed by the WHO through the COVAX facility in the near future.  

Responding to a question on moves to manufacturing the Sinovac vaccines in Sri Lanka, he said it would take more time.  

He said Sinovac vaccines manufactured in Sri Lanka would be for export.  

“Sinovac is a Covid vaccine approved by Sri Lanka,”he said.
