Haputale broomstick-wielding Principal to be transferred

The Principal of the Primary School in Haputale who is alleged to have beaten children with a broomstick last Thursday would be transferred, Bandarawela Zonal Director of Education Dhammika Herath told the Daily Mirror. 

“The Principal would be transferred to a teacher position in another school and disciplinary action would be taken on the findings of a formal inquiry.

Police said the Principal, who ran amok when a broomstick had been broken by the students in a class, had beaten them with the broomstick.  

The parents, who informed the Police and Bandarawela Zonal Education Office, staged a protest in front of the school following the incident on Friday.  

However, Herath said none of the children had been admitted to hospital.
