China assures fullest support for economic recovery, resolution of debt crisis: FM

• Says Chinese debt trap a myth 
• Agrees to expedite Port City

Foreign Minister Ali Sabry who held bilateral talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in New York during the UN General Assembly Session said China assured its fullest support for Sri Lanka to recover from the current economic crisis and to resolve the debt issue.

Mr. Sabry told Daily Mirror that China would not let down Sri Lanka. 

Meanwhile, the Chinese embassy in Colombo quoted  Mr. Sabry as having said the ‘so-called” Chinese debt trap” an utterly groundless rumour.

During the meeting, Mr.Wang said the narrative of “debt trap” created and spread by certain countries is essentially a “trap of underdevelopment” for developing countries.
Two Foreign Ministers also agreed to expedite Port City Colombo, Hambantota Port and other BRI projects,  and negotiation on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
