Investigations on the death of the 16-year old girl from Kalutara were handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) upon the instructions of Inspector General of Police. Initially, the investigations were conducted by the Crime Branch of the Kalutara Police.

The family which is shocked over the unexpected death of their under-age daughter says that there are various unseen influences trying to swipe the incident under the carpet. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, a family member who spoke on conditions of anonymity claimed that the couple that had been arrested is yet to be questioned and that there seems to be no final conclusion on the post-mortem reports as yet.

The family member further said that they prefer if the investigations are being taken over by the CID. “It’s not that we don’t trust the law, but we want the investigations to be expedited soon before another girl falls victim to an incident of this nature. We wonder why the investigations are slow to conclude. Perhaps some people may be trying to cover up the matter altogether,” the family member complained.

However, when contacted, the Police Media Division told this paper that the couple had been further remanded till May 15. Meanwhile, the main suspect will be produced in courts today (12).
