Youth arrested for distributing child abuse content to foreigners via Facebook

A 20-year-old man has been arrested by Sri Lankan police for allegedly distributing videos and photos containing child sexual abuse material to foreign nationals through Facebook.   

Police recover a mobile phone and a computer containing explicit content

The arrest follows an investigation initiated by the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women, based on a report from the US Government’s National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).   

After presenting the findings to the Hulftsdorp Magistrate’s Court and conducting a phone analysis, police arrested the suspect in the Ragama area.   

Police also recovered a mobile phone and computer containing explicit content from the suspect’s possession. 

The suspect is a resident of Ragama  

Further investigations are being carried out by the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women.   

Police said they are working with international organisations to combat such cybercrimes to ensure the safety of children and women.
