Toddler dies after falling into pit

A one-and-a-half-year-old toddler died after she fell into a pit accumulated with  rainwater in the Nedunkulama area in Pooneryn, Kilinochchi, police said.  
The victim has been identified as Pushparasa Mithusana.  
Initial investigations revealed that nobody had witnessed the girl falling into the water. The parents discovered that their infant was missing from home, and later found her struggling to breathe in a pit filled with water.
