Ravi Seneviratne fined Rs. 2,500 after pleading guilty in road accident offence

The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, retired Senior DIG Ravi Seneviratne, was on Thursday (9) fined Rs. 2,500 by Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kanchana Neranjala Silva after pleading guilty to a charge of failing to avoid a road accident in connection with a traffic incident that occurred on Marine Drive, Wellawatte, in 2023 while he was allegedly driving under the influence of  liquor.  

Counsel Chandana Perera, Geethma Fernando and Ajith Nandakumara, appearing for the accused, informed Court that their client pleaded guilty to the first charge of failing to avoid a road accident.  
 Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered that the case be recalled on August 20 for the payment of the fine and for the trial to proceed on the second and third charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of liquor.   
The case had been called on Thursday (9) for the Court to impose sentence on the first charge of failing to avoid a road accident and to determine whether the prosecution would proceed with the second and third charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of liquor.
