All political parties should get together in preserving Sri Lanka’s rich culture irrespective of their political ideologies, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.

Speaking at the closing of the annual Nawam Perahera organized by the Gangaramaya Vihara for the 45th successive year, the former president said political parties should forget their political ideologies when fulfilling their duty of safeguarding the country’s culture.

“We are thankful for the participation of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Sunil Senavi in the annul Nawam Perahera,” he said.

Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa said the Nawam Perahera sends the message of peace by bringing people from all faiths and ethnic groups together. “Peraheras such as this brings peace and prosperity to the nation and it brings people from all faiths and ethnic groups together,” Mr. Premadasa said at the opening of the Nawam Perahera organized by the Gangaramaya Temple for the 45th successive year.
