Passports, NICs should be issued at district level: President

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said yesterday a centralised data platform was needed to expedite the issuance of passports and National Identity Cards (NICs) at a district level.   

According to the PMD, the President had expressed these views at a meeting held recently at the Presidential Secretariat with members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 Prevention. 

President Rajapaksa had stated that a total of 3,297 Sri Lankan students and others on temporary visas who were repatriated from overseas were under quarantine.
