Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya emphasized the government’s strong commitment to introduce a quality education sector where children will not have to depend on tuition.
She expressed these views during her visit to Jaffna Hindu College during the weekend.

“As a government, we are very focused on education. Once again, we need to make sure that education becomes a priority in our society and that we invest in good education. This is the intention of our government,” The Premier said.
She stressed that substantial reforms are being planned for the education system, emphasizing the need for change. “The tuition industry developed because of the failure of our education system,” she said. “So if we want to reduce dependence on tuition, what we need to do is make sure that every child has access to an excellent education system within the school. Then that is the only way that we can reduce the reliance that students today have on tuition.” Ms. Amarasuriya said.
The Prime Minister also expressed the government’s determination to ensure that no child drops out of school, reinforcing the goal of leaving no child behind. She said that the dream is for every child, not just those at Jaffna Hindu College, but all children in the country, to benefit from a high-quality education system.
