Several families in the Thangamale Glenore Estate in Haputale were evacuated in view of the imminent danger of landslide and provided shelter in safer locations.
Haputale Divisional Secretary Gayani K. Ranatunga said 90 occupants in 32 families were provided shelter in Glenore Maha Vidyalaya temporary welfare centre.
She said the National Building Research Organisation that carried out an inspection, recommended the immediate evacuation of families from the endangered area. Meanwhile, the hill bordering the Beragala Blackwood Vidyalaya in Haldumulla had been endangered with rock falling and earth slip. Haldumulla Divisional Director of Education Nilani Dhammika said the students and the teachers of the school would be shifted to Haldumulla Tamil Maha Vidyalaya today.
