Island wide operation nets numerous suspects

The island wide special operation launched at 4 a.m. on Sunday on the directives of Acting Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Thennakoon, led to the arrest of numerous suspects related to criminal activities along with drugs.   

Police said a total of 55 suspects had been arrested within the Wellampitiya Police area and a person in possession of 35 kilograms of ‘Hashish’ was arrested in the Wattala area yesterday. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be around Rs. 20 million   


The special island-wide operation aims to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. Covering 45 police divisions across the island, the initiative involves coordinated efforts from the Police, Special Task Force (STF), and armed forces personnel.
