Inclement weather leaves 70,000 people affected

  • Showers about 150 mm on the cards at multiple places

Some 70,000 people from 18,000 families across thirteen districts have been affected by adverse weather conditions, with two deaths reported, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).   

Accordingly, people in Ratnapura, Colombo, Kegalle, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Galle, Jaffna, Kalutara, Matara, Puttalam, Kurunegala, Hambantota and Gampaha have been affected.  A total of 410 houses have been partially damaged due to the adverse weather conditions.

Further, the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has issued landslide warnings for nine districts namely, Badulla Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala and Ratnapura  

Meanwhile, very heavy showers about 150 mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts. Heavy showers above 100 mm are likely at some places in North-western province and in Mannar, Galle and Matara districts.
