Two incidents were reported in the Homagama Police area, and five suspects involved in the drug racket were arrested, the police said.

The racketeers’ modus operandi for infiltrating heroin and other illicit drugs into the prison is to use young men who volunteer to commit minor offenses resulting in short-term imprisonment.

These men then carry the drugs into the prison hidden on their person.

Under interrogation, the suspects stated that they agreed to commit a minor offense and, when remanded, would carry the hidden drugs into prison.

They revealed they would receive a significant sum of money, potentially millions, upon release.

The suspects arrested by Homagama Police were from the Kiriwattuduwa, Padukka, and Pitipana areas.

A police team led by HQI Homagama Police CI Praneeth Manawadu conducted the raid and apprehended the suspects.
