Grandfather and grandson drowned in the sea in Norochcholai

• The grandfather had saved two of his grandsons and drowned with the other in his attempt to save him

An elderly man and his grandson both drowned in the sea off Ilanthadiya in Norochcholai when the former attempted to save the latter from drowning.   

The victims Mohamed Saheed Kachchmohamadu (60) and his grandson Mohamed Sahir Khan (21) were residents of Madurankuliya area.  

  The grandfather and his family with three grandsons celebrating Hajji had allowed the three young men to enjoy a sea bath. However when  they were taken away by the waves and got into difficulty, the grandfather had saved two of them and drowned with the other in his attempt to save him.    

The body of the elderly man was recovered a little while later and that of the young man by fishermen from the sea off Alankudawa.   

Norochcholai police are conducting further investigations.
