The Government is looking towards introducing a new private public joint bus service, President Anura Kumra Dissanayake said over the weekend.
Speaking during a public rally at Tissamaharama , the President said all private and public sector busses will be made to run according to a joint time table.
“We are currently conducting discussions on this move. It will take some time to implement the proposal,” the President said.
“People spend a high amount of funds for their transportation. In addition quality of public transportation is inferior. We want to change this situation. Our intention is to reduce this amount. The SLTB will bring down 500 new busses. In addition it has been planned to bring down 100 busses with international standards. A sum of Rs 3 billion has been allocated for this purpose,” he said.
The President pledged to bring in a new education system under which the destiny of a school going child will be decided at a new examination which he or she will have to sit for when they reach grade nine.
