Fishermen warned to stay in Sri Lankan territorial waters amidst tension in Indian Ocean

In the wake of an attack on an Iranian naval ship within Sri Lanka’s economic zone, Fisheries Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar yesterday urged the Sri Lankan fishing community not to intrude into International waters violating Sri Lanka’s territorial waters.  
The Minister told Parliament that it is the duty of the government to ensure the safety of the fishing community, considering the incidents developing in Sri Lanka’s territorial waters and international waters.
