E-passports to be available from early next year

Contract to supply electronic chips for passports will be awarded to the successful bidder

The government will introduce e-passports to the public during the first quarter of next year, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said yesterday.  
The Minister told the Daily Mirror that the tender process had been closed at the moment and the successful bidder would be awarded the contract to supply electronic chips required for passports. He said the new e-passports would be issued starting from the first quarter of next year.
