Claiming that suspended IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon’s wife who is a legal officer at the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) had gone on leave, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said the government will not allow any hindrance to the medicine supply as a result.
He told the weekly briefing to announce Cabinet decisions that an acting legal officer has been appointed to oversee duties in the position and that there has been no obstacle to the medicine supply.
The Minister said this while responding to a remark that the wife of a much-talked about person these days, a legal officer at the SPC had to go on leave for 18 days resulting in 300 files on medicine procurement being piled up without a legal officer’s signature. The Minister said she had obtained leave once and reported for duty and then again gone on leave and added that no legal action can be taken against her according to the prevailing mechanism.
