The Sri Lanka Police have issued an official statement addressing the circulation of a photograph claimed to have been taken during the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic, known as ‘Siri Dalada Wandanawa,’ held at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
In their statement, police emphasized that all devotees attending the sacred exposition were strictly prohibited from using mobile phones or capturing any photographs of the Sacred Tooth Relic of The Buddha.
Despite these restrictions, a photograph purportedly showing the Sacred Tooth Relic has surfaced online, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the origin and authenticity of the image. The inquiry aims to determine whether the image was indeed taken during the recent exposition, who may have taken it, and whether it may have been digitally altered.
Following instructions from Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has commenced an official investigation into the matter.
Police have assured the public that appropriate action will be taken if any individual is found to have violated the rules set during the religious event.
