Buddhist monk shot dead at temple in Gampaha

A 45-year old Buddhist monk Kalapaluwawe Dharmarathana Thera has been shot dead with a T-56 weapon at a temple at Malwathu Hiripitiya in Gampaha yesterday.
Police said four unknown persons who arrived in a car claiming that they were officers of the Criminal Investigation Department carried out the shooting.   
The incident took place on Tuesday at around 12.15 in the afternoon.   


It was reported that the four persons claimed they were CID officers and wanted to check on information that the monk was in possession of drugs.   
It has been revealed that they fired two shots at the monk and fled.   


The Malwathu Hiripitiya Police are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the shooting and to arrest the suspects.
